At some places, it has been described in symptomatic form while at other places it has been considered as a disease. The disease has different name in Unani literature like Waram-e-unq-e-masana (swelling of the neck of urinary bladder). Symptomatic description include Ihtibas-e-Baul (Retention of urine) Taqtir-ul-baul (dribbling of urine). Now it is confirmed that the disease is because of the hypertrophy of prostate gland. Though the name of the gland is not there. In modern medicine several treatment options are available but they are associated with some disadvantages. Single drugs useful in BPH are Braham Dandi (Echinops echinatus), Basahri Booti( Aerva lanata), Gokhru (Tribulus terristris), Satawar (Asparagas racemosus), Karanjwa (Cesalpinia bonducella). The details will be discussed in full length paper.
